SONAR DOME

The Onondaga has two types of sonar: passive and active. The passive sonar makes it possible to listen to sounds that surround the submarine, to identify various types of objects and their direction. The active one transmits a sound and listens to the returning echo. Not only does this method make it possible to know exactly the distance of the objects surrounding the submarine but also reveals its presence to the other ships.
